The Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford was the first purpose-built public museum in the world, and is the oldest surviving public museum in Britain, officially opened in 1683. The project’s representative from the Ashmolean is Dr Giovanna Vitelli, Director of the University Engagement Programme (UEP) funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
